Commune

Morzeszczyn Commune is a rural administrative district in Tczew County, Pomerania Province, in northern Poland. Its seat is the village of Morzeszczyn, which lies approximately 42 kilometres from Tczew and 76 km from the regional capital Gdańsk. The area borders are as follows: Bobowo Commune (in the west), Pelplin Commune (in the north), Gniew Commune (in the east), Smętowo Graniczne Commune (in the south). The Commune is subdivided into 11 Village Councils : Borkowo, Dzierżążno, Gąsiorki, Gętomie, Kierwałd, Królów Las, Lipia Góra, Majewo, Morzeszczyn, Nowa Cerkiew, Rzeżęcin. The aproximate number of total population is 3870 people.

Area

The Commune covers an area of 91.24 square kilometres. Arable land covers over 72 % of the area, forest covers 18% of the area and the remaining 10% of built-up areas, wasteland, rivers, lakes. As far as geographical location is concerned, the Commune is located within Pojezierze Starogradzkie, the Wierzyca River and Janki River – the tributary of the Wierzyca River. The north-west part of the Commune is located within “Gniewski Obszar Chronionego Krajobrazu”. Morzeszczyn has very favorable location, for instance, provincial road no. 234 that connects Gniew with national road no. 1 and Skórcz with national road no. 222. The Commune has also good road connections to Pelplin and Bobowo. Morzeszczyn has well developed rail transport. One of the primary routes is the railroad route Śląsk – Gdańsk Porty and the halts in the village of Majewo, Morzeszczyn and Kulice. The A1 motorway passes through The Morzeszczyn Commune. The nearest communication junctions are in Ropuchy and Kopytkowo.
